Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) was an Anglo-Irish satirist, essayist, political pamphleteer, poet and cleric who became Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin.
His best works include A Tale of a Tub (1704), An Argument Against Abolishing Christianity (1712), Gulliver's Travels (1726), and A Modest Proposal (1729).
In his writings, he practiced satire--a literary form used to overemphasize and parody certain groups of people. His deadpan and ironic writing style has led to such satire being

Swift has gained a "baby-eater" title (hence the name of this website) from his work A Modest Proposal as the essay suggests that the impoverished Irish may be able to ease their economic troubles by selling
their children as food for rich gentlemen and ladies.
